Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Born on June 29, 1900, in Lyon, into an old aristocratic family, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry embarked on a remarkable journey that encompassed both the skies and the world of literature. He dedicated himself to a career in the air force and became a pilot, a profession that not only shaped his life but also greatly influenced his writing. His exceptional contributions to both aviation and literature earned him the distinguished Legion of Honor.

His literary endeavors include notable novels such as "Courrier Sud" (1929), "Vol de nuit" (1931, awarded the Prix Femina), and "Terre des hommes" (1939, honored with the Prix de l'Académie française). These works achieved worldwide success, showcasing his prowess as a storyteller and his deep insights into the human experience.

During his wartime exile in the United States, Saint-Exupéry authored compelling stories, including "Pilote de guerre" (1942) and "Le Petit Prince" (1943), which went on to become one of his most celebrated and enduring creations.

However, the spirit of adventure and dedication to a greater cause compelled him to rejoin the Free French Forces during World War II. Tragically, his unwavering commitment to duty led to his untimely end when his plane was shot down during a mission on July 31, 1944.
